On my way to work, I have been detouring through Peterborough's Central Park, a classic round town park which is well used. In the mornings there is a mixture of students cutting through the park to the local college as well as a big mix of joggers, walker and squirrel feeders lol

This morning I just had time to grab this shot of people exercising in the early sun. It is great that this park is so well frequented but I liked the isolation of these people and decided to grain it up and warm mono tone it.

unsure.gif Like the long shadows, but maybe in colour you would have got the warmth of the autumn leaves. blink.gif
Great picture all the same

I have often thought that if photography were difficult in the true sense of the term -- meaning that the creation of a simple photograph would entail as much time and effort as the production of a good watercolor or etching -- there would be a vast improvement in total output. The sheer ease with which we can produce a superficial image often leads to creative disaster.

I didn't like it in colour Frank as shooting into the sun didn't work out as well as I thought and got a bit washed out. Recoverable in mono but not so much in colour.

Plus the fact I was more interested in the people who use the park every morning to exercise. The Asian ladies, and there are quite a few do it,walk the circuit path of the park each day. In summer it adds a flash of colour as they walk in small groups in the most amazing saris. However, they do not take kindly to having the camera pointed at them as the are walking towards you, some even turn and set off back so I try not to upset or offend them.

I like this, the shadows add a little something, It's a pity it didn't work in colour because i think that would be nice, but I do take your point about it being wash out which is a shame. Maybe you could selective colour it :)

I would make two small changes here though, I feel it needs a crop not because of the composition, I think that's fine, it's just the format maybe a little from the top just to close it in a little. The second change would be to remove the guy in front, although he's not really visible, with him there the Asian lady's are less isolated. Just two small changes that I would make.

I like the dark shadows in this shot. It's something I have a lot of problems with when trying B/W conversions. My shadows usually look more grey than black, and if I try to darken them they usually go too far and end up black with no detail finepixs5600/ChairHit.gif finepixs5600/emozionato.gif .

Just spent ages playing with the colour version to get something I like, which means it is probably one no one else will lol. Anyway, done tons of work on this to get rich colour back. Took my eye off the ball and didn't check my camera setting in my rush to grab something. I didn't have time to hang around for the next group of people as I was already late for work unsure.gif

Anyway, lots of work to make it more painterly than photographic. I did take your advice Vic and clipped some off the top and got rid of the figure from the front of the group.

I think the tighter crop and the autumn colours look much better too finepixs5600/thumbsupsmiley[1].png .
The only thing that looks wrong to me is the dark parts of shadow on the tees in the middle. I know you wanted a "more painterly than photographic" shot but this part looks more painted than the rest of it to me. I think a closer mix would be better if you know what I mean unsure.gif .
