I have Photoshop CS3 which I've been using for messing about with my shots. Last week I took a few shots in RAW and wanted to process them using the CS3 Camera Raw software, but I can't seem to find it and when I try to open the CR2 raw file (EOS 450D raw file) it says "wrong kind of document".
Thinking it just needed updating to read CR2 raw files I went onto the Adobe website and downloaded an update.
Now I've mentioned before I'm thick as Pig $h!t when it comes to computers, and it's downloaded the update as a .zip file to my desktop.
What do I do with it now to be able to process raw shots with CS3 finepixs5600/help.gif finepixs5600/emozionato.gif

To install with Adobe Creative Suite 3 or Photoshop CS3:
1. Exit Photoshop CS3.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)

Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats

5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as in step 4.
7. Launch Photoshop CS3 or Adobe Bridge.

Normally when I look at my jpeg shots to see which ones I want to mess with, I look at them using Adobe Bridge in CS3. I double click on the thumbnail then it opens in CS3 ready for me to play with.
But when I try to look at the Raw thumbnails in Bridge, it just shows the CR2 Icon so I don't know what the picture is until I double click and open it in CS3 blink.gif .

Do I need to update the camera Raw in Adobe Bridge too? and is it the same camera raw file I've just downloaded for CS3? and if so what is the directory I need to copy it too?

Do you take in RAW and jpeg together Shaggy? or you just shooting in RAW? I dont use Bridge either but as Vic says Picasa allows you to view the raw files, me myself I always use picasa to upload from my card to pc - then any editing I always use cs3 or 4 whichever I can be bothered to click on lol - then just click on the raw fileto open the raw editor - but if you shoot in jpeg and raw together you can eliminate picasa because cs3 will see the image of the jpeg and the raw file has same number. long way about it but it works.

yes i shoot jpeg and raw together skye, and both Jpeg and raw files appear side by side in the individual folders for that days shoot.

It didn't use to do, but i reformatter the laptop a few months back and what ever i downloaded form adobe to enabled me to see them...........lol

they have the same number and are next to each other but obviously there 2 different file formats.

It's the first time I've tried Raw and I shot in Raw + jpeg, but I saved the raw and jpeg in seperate folders: blush : .
The strange thing is, I had ago with adobe DNG raw convertor which converts your cameras raw files to DNG raw files as an experiment. Then opened adobe Bridge to look at the thumbnails of the DNG raw files and they showed up no problem. I then tried to open one of said files and nothing blink.gif unsure.gif .
So went back to the original CR2 folder and the thumbnails are now showing the pictures biggrin.gif .
Strange how computers work or don't whatever the case maybe finepixs5600/emozionato.gif finepixs5600/risatonaD.gif finepixs5600/risatonaD.gif

What I usual do also is once I have edited my raw file for web use etc I save it using the same name as the jpeg so it overwrites the original jpeg which then means I still have the cr2 file intact if ever needed again might be a mad way of doing things but it seems to work for me lol = then whatever the name of that particular album is I zip up all the cr2 files once I have finished with them to store and just keep the jpegs in the album for viewing like.

Must admit too I always shoot now in Raw and jpeg as I find the RAW format really handy when it comes to landscapes

A little off topic, tell me Skye when you shoot in jpg and raw and use
the usb to put the files on the pc, do you see both files, ie the
jpg and cr2 ?, I don't I just see jpg,s
