If not for this forum I would probably not have tried some of the other stuff I've attempted (with mixed results finepixs5600/emozionato.gif ) over the last year or two, so thanks for the ideas and encouragement to expand my horizons a bit finepixs5600/notworthy.gif finepixs5600/notworthy.gif .

Just in-case anyone's still looking in I thought I'd post a couple of shots of the moon while I can biggrin.gif .

Have to say Shaggy that the moon is a subject that most people have a go at at some time in their photographic career. There have been quite a few gracing the Finepixels forum but only a couple stand out from the crowd. The first was the stunning picture posted by Skye of the eclipse some time ago in which she included multiple shots of the moon in it's phases. If some may not have seen this then maybe Skye would be good enough to post it again, it is a joy to look at.

The other is one of yours above. The moon silhouetting the pylon with a blue sky is just superb. That is a great shot well spotted and well executed.

To add to your comments about broadening your horizons, you certainly have and you have produced consistently good pictures. However, I think most will agree that your wildlife shots have been of great inspiration to us all. I know that some on here have vastly improved their nature and wildlife because of the examples and standards that you have set so I doubt I will be alone in saying a big thank you to you for that. You have indeed been an inspirational and valuable member.

ooo some nice moon shots Shaggy I love that first one with the pylons and cables that sky is a fab shade of blue, I was going to try some moons myself the other night got all the tripod set up sorted out the lens etc then a pile of black clouds came and the moon was no more lol.

You use Facebook at all Shaggy? we are on there also under finepixels, I dont usually advertise other sites but seeing as Darren has decided that he no longer wants to continue with this site have a look at Ephotozine its a really good site and again very friendly you can pay to join or there is free membership both are really good I myself am on theer so is Darren so if you do join let us now your username and shall keep an eye out for you and add you to my favourites. A wide variety of subjects on there and some amazing work but I know you also love the birds and the images on there are an inspiration, check it out worth a look

I to will be sad if this site closes, I enjoy posting and seeing what other people think of my photos.
When I first started it was sport and little else but some of you guys gave me ideas to branch out and try other things. Although I have not been a prolific poster I have enjoyed looking at some wonderful examples shown on this web site.
I have audience for my motorcycle racing photos as a member of the north east motorcycle racing club I provide photos for their publications, I am not sure where I will show my other shots.

I nearly forgot I will miss your wildlife shots Shaggy I have tried to emulate your shots with little success but I will keep trying.

I do like the first shot with the pylon in the forground.

If this is goodbye it has been nice knowing you, all the best.

I'm not a fan of moon shots, why?, because they tend to say very little to me, I do however like the 1st one,but it may have looked much better if you could have just positioned it so the moon was just resting on the wires.

I have also noticed a very large moon this week, but I'm on a week and half course for a new computer system at work and my head hurts after day 2. So i'm in no mood to take photos on the way home.

Thanks everyone for the comments, they are much appreciated.

Paddy I know wildlife shots are enjoyed by some members not others, but thanks very much for you're comment it means a lot to me finepixs5600/notworthy.gif .

Skye I remember the night that happened. I had my tripod set up in the garden with my trusty s5600..... and make a right B*!!$ of my shots finepixs5600/emozionato.gif . The when I saw your multiple shot, shot, I must admit I was more than a bit jealous finepixs5600/ENVY.gif , I would have loved to get that for myself finepixs5600/clapping.gif

Vic I must admit I never thought about balancing the moon on one of the lines. I wish I had now it might have looked good in a funny sort of way laugh.gif laugh.gif .

Good shots - especially the wires.

Skye's eclipse sequence now has pride of place on the wall outside my lab at school - angel that she is, she e-mailed me the full-size pic and allowed me to use it.

And if you're in the mood for an old photo of the moon, does anyone remember this old thing....

TBH, if I remember correctly this was a very early Photoplus job and it took me ages! I'd do it very differently now! The man in the moon is my father-in-law.

Second one is definitely an improvement Grez, you can see the patterns of the moon through the face finepixs5600/thumbsupsmiley[1].png .

I like the first picture with the wires, looks really good. Now last weekend i thought i'd have a go at the moon, but failed. Not sure what settings i needed to change, i kept either getting a really blownout moon, or a really blurry moon.

Seems to me the moon is a difficult subject. Skye, that lunar stage pic looks fab.

Considering it's usually dark you need a surprisingly fast shutter speed to stop you blowing out the moon. I usually set the ISO at 100 and using manual up the shutter speed and keep checking the lcd to see if it's blown out and if so, up the speed a bit more.
As for it being blurred, did you use a tripod? because you really need to use a tripod for shots of the moon.

That's how I do it but others may have different ways biggrin.gif .
